Hello, I'm Shawna!

Since becoming a certified yoga instructor, Shawna has been enjoying teaching yin yoga, yoga nidra,
restorative, gentle, and slow flow vinyasa. Her classes are inspired by dance, nature, breath awareness,
joy, and influenced by the Iyengar and Kripalu trained teachers she has studied under. Shawna guides
students through a mindful and relaxed practice while encouraging them to listen to their bodies as a
guide to making their practice their own. Shawna strongly feels that yoga is a true gift and has
something to offer every body and looks forward to seeing you in class to explore the gift of yoga
together.

Shawna always had a love for dance that after high school led her to the Hartford Conservatory in
Hartford Connecticut. It was there that she was first introduced to yoga. Over time, while practicing,
she began to realize the importance of connecting the breath to movement and she was able to
incorporate this new breath awareness into her dancing helping her to feel more fluid. A few years after
finishing the Conservatory, Shawna re- visited the practice of yoga. She became more aware of the
positive changes within herself and the wonderful benefits yoga had to offer both on and off the mat.
What really drew Shawna to yoga though was the peace and calm she found within herself during her
yoga practice. Realizing that since she’s always had a passion for helping and encouraging others to feel
the best that they can as well as a desire to help others cultivate a peace and calm for themselves, she
would begin yoga teacher training with Paula Scopino at Sacred Rivers Yoga. In January 2014 Shawna
became a certified yoga instructor and in March 2019 she became a 500 hour yoga instructor through
Lotus Gardens Yoga School with Lara Ward and Rebecca Smith and in October, 2020 she became a
certified yin yoga instructor through Jiiva Yoga. Shawna has also studied yoga nidra with Beth Gibbs of
Integrative Yoga Therapy. Shawna is also a holistic food and body image coach, health coach, reiki level
two certified and continues her education by taking workshops and attending classes.
